Friend your Fears

First part of this is to put fear into a whole new framework:

Instead of trying to get rid of these fears and push them away, welcome them. Why? Because fears are good. They are our friends. They protect us from harms we know of and threats that may come our way. We have this beautiful system inside us that just goes a little over board sometimes.

Fear is your friend. We usually fear things that might happen in the future. So fear is actually a fiction friend of yours. Treat it as such.

Second part is a hands on list how to handle this imaginary friend when it comes over:

  1. Notice the fear, acknowledge it and embrace it. Let it stay.

  2. Name the fear and describe it in detail.

  3. Be curious. What is going on in your head, what thoughts are provoking this fear?

  4. Take a moment and think about your situation right now. What are you missing at right this moment?

  5. Write down everything.

  6. Practice some gratitude and focus on all the good you have in your life.

  7. Talk to someone about this fear.

  8. Get some perspective. What is the absolute worst that can happen?

Practice these like a madman. Start with smaller so you have the routine down for the big F's visit.
